Manscaped 2 vs 3 vs 4: Which Device Stands Out Among The Family?

Choosing between the Manscaped family is always a tough job because there’s a mix of oddly similar features and unique technological upgrades.

I used to own the Lawn Mower 2.0 and had fallen in love with the comfort until I decided to upgrade to the 3.0. The newer one felt brilliant after prolonged use and close inspection.

I’ve scrolled through the whole internet to find the significant differences between these with the latest 4.0 but couldn’t find any, until I decided to buy the newest variant as well.

Now that I’ve used all three of them first hand and made bitter-sweet memories, I believe leaving behind my understanding from the experience will help many people like me out there.

Thus, the Manscaped 2 vs 3 vs 4 battle fills the knowledge gap from a user’s experience and since I’m a professional groomer as well, my analysis contains the insight to differentiate key elements that are essential for both ball trimming and body shaving.

Who Are Manscaped?

Manscaped is one of those brands who specialize on body grooming needs, especially men’s testicular area. With the inclusion of the latest technologies to provide the highest degree of comfort and safety, frequently shaving the genital area has become Manscaped’s forte.

For superior comfort, longevity and performance, Manscaped devices are ranked among the top ball trimmers till date. They don’t nick, cut or tug if used properly, thus landing them as one of the highly revered brands in the body grooming market!

Manscaped 2, 3 & 4: Feature Overview

Before jumping into the burning battle between these three devices, let’s explore their features briefly to understand what they truly have to offer to the consumers.

MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 2.0

Manscaped Lawn Mower 2.0

The Lawn Mower 2.0 is one of those early investments into innovative design that caters to ball trimming and pubic hair cleaning. It contains ceramic blades, 2 trimmer guards with a total of 4 settings, 30 minute runtime with a rechargeable battery and capable of shaving wet and dry. This is regarded as the entrypoint to the comfortable pube-cleaning duty.

MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 3.0

Manscaped Lawn Mower 3.0

The 3rd generation of Lawn Mowers feature the same ceramic blades but has included an upgrade in motor power. The battery has seen a major improvement as it can run for around 90 minutes with water resistant technology. A charging dock has been included for easy-maintenance, an LED light for better viewing and an LED power indicator in the housing.

MANSCAPED Lawn Mower 4.0

Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0

The Lawn Mower 4.0 is the latest installment in the line with 1-4 trimmer guard settings, a powerful headlight and an LED charge level indicator. The wireless charging dock belongs to the state of the art technology and the travel-lock along with the pouch renders carrying it much easier and safer than before!

The Manscaped Journey: Is the Latest the Best?

People always think that the latest device is the best one and the ones prior to that don’t stand a chance of being the superior device. I’ll tell you if that’s the case for Lawn Mower 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 with my personal experience and analysis with all three of them.

Motor Power

What struck me first after turning on each of these devices were the sound of the motor and the level of vibration. While Manscaped promotes their QuietStroke technology, it didn’t seem like that quiet to me. And the 2.0 motors don’t even contain this, silence is out of the window for that as well.

Motor Power

However, there’s a significant difference in the motor power between the Lawn Mower 2.0 with its successors. The 2.0 managed to get the job done back in the days when it happened to be my frequent body & ball shaver with its 6,000 RPM motor.

But when I upgraded to the 3.0, the 7,000 RPM motor energized the ceramic blades so much that shaving my balls felt effortless than previous occasions. With the same motor and blades, the 4.0 performs similarly to the 3.0, leaving the 2.0 behind in raw power and performance.

Also, more power means the longevity of the blades will increase as they don’t have to struggle through hair chopping for more time than they actually need. This is why my 3.0 & 4.0 blades have lasted significantly longer than the 2.0 despite belonging to the same category.

Trimmer Guards

Even the best of the ball trimmers can leave your balls bleeding, at least it has been for my case. That’s why I never dare to expose my precious man-jewels to blades without any sort of trimmer guard on, even if the blades are made of ceramic!

All of these three contain unique varieties of trimmer guards I’ve ever come across in any specialized ball shaver. The 4.0 contains two guards that can trim at 4 length settings, the closest one being 0.2 mm.

The 3.0 comes with a single guard attachment that can be adjusted without removing the guard unlike the 4.0. This is something I’ve felt more convenient as I don’t have to carry around attachments that I can lose very easily.

The 2.0 however features different kinds of guards that are more extruded than the other two and are significantly challenging to snap on at the first chance. Also the extended portions have caused me discomfort during shaving and also during packing inside my luggage.

All things considered, the 4.0 has provided me with the closest ball shave with the guard on while the 3.0 has the best attachment system overall. For the 2.0, it certainly needed improvement thus Manscaped redesigned it in their following products.

Quality of Shaving

First off, quality ball trimmers don’t leave your balls itchy after each session. I’ve had trimmers that would dry out my testicles and make them wrinkled, thus I started prioritizing the shaving quality above many other factors.

Quality Of Shaving

All three of the Manscaped trimmers have exceeded my expectations in this regard. They share similar blades that are interchangeable and the ceramic material is more forgiving than the steel ones, thus I feel less scared while taking them close to my man jewels.

However, there are some slight differences in shaving quality. Let me get this straight, I’ve cut open my balls on all three occasions with these trimmers, so I’ve done my further experimentation with the guards on.

The 4.0 has given me the closest shave with its guard, not as close as a manual razor though. The 3.0 will rank second in terms of closeness and comfort. But the 2.0 fails to live up to its successors due to its low motor power and awkward trimmer guard shape.

So I’ll always pick the 4.0 and ask you to do the same if you have the budget to spend on it. Otherwise, the 3.0 isn’t far behind so that’s also worth mentioning!

LED Spotlight

What I’ve found very difficult during shaving my balls is the light setting. No matter how well-lit places I select, I either end up making a mess or there just isn’t sufficient light to see past the wrinkles in the difficult areas which leaves behind unshaved patches afterward.

LED Spotlight

It also happens while shaving behind my shoulders as I constantly keep checking in the mirror. The Manscaped 3.0 & 4.0 are blessings in disguise in these regards as both of them contain an LED light at the head to guide my way past the unwanted hair with ease.

The 4.0’s light felt much more powerful than the 3.0 as the company advertises it to contain a 4K LED system. However, no sort of light is present in the 2.0 housing which had me hold my torchlight or phone’s light to have a better view of my sacks or other body parts.

Charging System

This is a point of significant difference between the Lawn Mower variants in question. All three of them use unique charging systems that set them apart from one another and it’ll help you out in making your pick according to your needs and desires.

Charging System

Starting with the 2.0, I was never really impressed with its charging system. The device comes with a special double-barrel charger that I always needed to carry around because of its unique port design. It even didn’t charge at times leaving me with no juice after having it plugged in for a couple of hours. That’s why wise men check the LED indicator after plugging in a charger!

The 3.0 had given me a huge relief with its upgraded charging port and a charging dock that comes with it. I could always leave it behind, placed in the dock after my grooming session and the dock took care of the rest. The device can be charged directly without the dock which made my travel lighter, all I needed was my Xbox controller cable to charge it with!

The 4.0 here has brought a massive upgrade as regards the charging system. It has a charging station that refills the battery wirelessly. So it has become a matter of seconds to dock and undock my shaver and don’t have to dangle around the cable with my wet hands!

LED Indicator

All three of the Manscaped shavers have LED indicators with certain capabilities. The 3.0 only shows a light telling me which point of charge I’m at, if it’s low on battery or if it’s fully charged. So I didn’t always get a longer heads up before I found my shaver dead if I was careless with charging.

The red light means it’s low on juice and green means it’s fully charged. As opposed to the 3.0, the 2.0 didn’t indicate such charging indicators, only one light embedded in the body that told me if it’s being charged or not.

The 4.0 has landed a remarkable upgrade after hearing out the moanings of consumers like us. New LED indicator system that’s a part of this device has a charge level indicator in three layers.

This inclusion has made my charging routine tons more easy as I can check out the indicator and know where I am in terms of juice. Due to this, I’ve never had my shaver die out during any operation and I believe it’s a must-have feature to be the superior body groomer in 2023.

Battery & Runtime

There’s a huge gap in battery performance between the 2.0, 3.0 and the 4.0. Two of the latter devices contain the same 600 mAh li-ion battery that lasted me around an hour and a half when I left them on for stress testing. The former however didn’t make it past 40 minutes with a full charge.

The 2.0 is a significantly older device that contains AAA batteries. Although it’s rechargeable, it’s not the kind of battery to hold juice for prolonged periods of time and don’t last like the newer batteries do.

So I wouldn’t recommend you to go for the 2.0 if you want to travel without the charger as it’s certainly going to die after a couple of shaving sessions.

As per the 3.0 and 4.0, I’ve used each of them once a week and didn’t feel the need to hook them up to the dock for nearly a month of using. That’s huge for any body or ball shaver, isn’t it?

Travel-Lock

I’m someone who’s constantly traveling and shavers or trimmers with a travel-lock feature is always something I consider before making my purchase. It’s quite sad that only the 4.0 contains such a feature and the rest of the devices do not.

I only have to press the power button 3 times to engage the locking mechanism before stashing my shaver inside the luggage. In this regard, I’ll hold the 4.0 at a higher place than the 2.0 and 3.0 as my traveling has become less concerning after previous embarrassing experiences.

Grip Level

From the get go, I was impressed with the 3.0’s grip level as its entire housing is covered with rubber grips. I’ve tried it out in running water as well and it never felt like slipping out of my hand for once!

Grip Level

Get Manscaped Lawn Mower 2.0 at Amazon

I was hoping for a significant upgrade in grip level but was kind of disappointed. Don’t get me wrong, the grip is still good in the 4.0 which Manscaped managed to get done with less rubber pads. But the shape itself has been a matter of concern for me.

While the 3.0 used to firmly fit in my palms without any discomfort, the 4.0 can be a little tiring after prolonged use. On the other hand, the 2.0’s grip is good but not as great as the newer devices and begs for much grip to be had at wet sessions.

Price

There’s around a $15 gap between the Lawn Mower 4.0 and 3.0 with the former being the pricier one for obvious reasons. The 2.0 isn’t continued by Manscaped but you can pick up refurbished variants at $10 cheaper than the 3.0.

Verdict

If I have to place my verdict on the Manscaped 2 vs 3 vs 4 argument, I’ll have to side with the Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0. It doesn’t mean that the 3.0 is significantly inferior, rather my decision is made on overall assessment. Let me break it down.

The Lawn Mower 3.0 and 4.0 share almost identical features. Even their blades can be interchanged, same motors, battery and light up the front. But the 4.0 has a better charging dock, travel lock and battery level indicator, which for me justifies the $15 gap easily.

If none of the three factors I’ve mentioned about matter to you, then you can save some bucks by opting for the 3.0. It’s sad to state that 2.0 doesn’t stand a chance with these two.

But if you already have one lying around at home, then I’ll ask you to stick to it without buying the latest device until it runs out of life force.
